Meet Patrick Morrisey

Patrick Morrisey is West Virginia's 37th Governor—a bold, determined leader, rooted in the hardworking spirit of the Mountain State. Patrick's story echoes the beginnings of so many West Virginians. His father, a WWII veteran and steel company worker, and his mother, a VA nurse, instilled in him the grit and resilience that define our state's character.

As the first in his family to complete college, Patrick faced many challenges, working consistently to pay his way through school while juggling academic priorities. But through his work and determination, he graduated from college, attended law school, and eventually became a highly successful attorney, serving as the Deputy Staff Director at the U.S. House Energy & Commerce committee, and as a Partner and Co-Practice Chair to some of the largest and most highly respected law firms in the nation.

A fighter and a winner, Patrick has spent his career taking on tough battles and delivering results. As West Virginia's Attorney General from 2013 to 2025, he led the charge against federal overreach, securing a landmark victory in West Virginia v. EPA—one of the most significant separation-of-powers wins in decades. Under his leadership, West Virginia became the lead state attacking Chevron Deference and administrative overreach. He won numerous fights for our freedoms and proved to be a champion for our state's rights.

His creative legal strategies also brought historic record-setting settlements against drug companies, the highest per capita in the nation, defending West Virginia families from the opioid crisis with unrelenting determination.

As Governor, his mantra of "cutting red tape" faster than other states is improving the state's business climate. His vision to produce significantly more energy than other states and monetize that energy for technology and data-center use and manufacturing opportunities is turning heads nationally. "Speed to build" isn't just a catch-phrase in the Mountain State — it's becoming a reality. These developments will power the future of our state's energy and technology job sectors, while also helping us wipe away the income tax.
