The Trump administration's Environmental Protection Agency finalized a partial repeal of 2024 greenhouse-gas requirements for coal- and natural-gas-fired power plants. The agency also proposed rescinding the remaining federal greenhouse-gas standards for the power sector.

Governor Patrick Morrisey called the action an important victory for reliable and affordable energy. He said it would help protect West Virginia jobs and grid reliability after years of legal challenges to federal power-plant rules, including the West Virginia v. EPA case he led as attorney general.

The EPA projects that the finalized repeal will save industry more than $300 billion. Environmental groups warned of health and climate consequences, and the rule changes are expected to face legal challenges.
