West Virginia will see a 13.5% reduction in workers' compensation loss costs effective Jan. 1, 2026 – a change projected to save state employers about $20 million in premiums.

Governor Patrick Morrisey announced this significant reduction, marking the 21st consecutive year of such reductions in the Mountain State. This achievement aligns perfectly with the Governor's focus on cutting costs to attract more businesses to West Virginia.

"This reduction represents real savings for our job creators," Governor Morrisey said. "Every dollar saved on workers' compensation is a dollar that can be invested in growth, wages, and creating more opportunities for West Virginians."

The consistent reduction in workers' compensation costs over two decades demonstrates West Virginia's commitment to creating a business-friendly environment. These savings make the state more competitive in attracting new industries while helping existing businesses expand their operations.

This announcement is part of Governor Morrisey's broader economic strategy to reduce regulatory burdens and operational costs for businesses operating in West Virginia. By maintaining a safe work environment while reducing costs, the state continues to strike a balance that benefits both workers and employers.

The reduction will apply to all employers participating in the state's workers' compensation program, providing broad-based relief across all industries and sectors of West Virginia's economy.
