Morrisey declares statewide emergency after new flooding

Governor Patrick Morrisey declared a State of Emergency for all 55 West Virginia counties after a new round of severe weather from August 16 through August 18.

Slow-moving storms brought excessive rain, flash flooding, mudslides, damaging winds, and widespread water rescues. The 30-day declaration gives state and local agencies flexibility to coordinate personnel, equipment, and relief resources.

This declaration is separate from the emergency issued after the July 21 storms. Recovery from that earlier event remained underway in 12 counties as the state responded to the new damage.
