Governor Patrick Morrisey announced that Starwood Digital Ventures plans a $12 billion data center project in West Columbia, Mason County.

The project, called Project Tamarack, has received a High Impact Data Center designation. Starwood said it will use a closed-loop cooling system to limit water use and fund its own infrastructure costs rather than passing them to West Virginia utility customers.

The company plans to hire from local communities and work with Mountwest Community and Technical College and other educational institutions. Starwood said West Virginia's standards for responsible data center development helped attract the investment.
