Governor Patrick Morrisey announced state action aimed at long-running water-system problems in Wayne County and southern West Virginia.
Local providers were losing as much as 70% of their treated water through underground leaks, or about 700,000 gallons a day. The state partnered with West Virginia American Water and proposed setting aside $4 million for an emergency pipeline connecting the Crum Public Service District to Lavalette.
The administration also directed the Water Development Authority to approve $150,000 to help Fort Gay extend service to the Lavalette system. The proposed connections would give the area additional water sources and reduce the risk of future outages.
